The Brain Foundation first joined the Ray White Surfers Paradise Muscular Dystrophy Charity Ball
fundraising event in 2009 at the invitation of the founders, Anthony and Gregory Bell. The Brain
Foundation was able to provide monies devoted to research into Muscular Dystrophy to boost
the Ball’s fundraising for the Queensland Muscular Dystrophy Association’s programmes.

The Brain Foundation was established in 1970 by members of the Australian Association of Neurologists
and the Neurosurgical Society all Australasia and is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
The Brain Foundation's two major aims are to provide information and educate the community about
all neurological disorders and brain and spinal injuries, and to raise funds for neurological research.

This year, 2010, the Brain Foundation has underwritten twice the 2009 amount for research into
Muscular Dystrophy.  The very high standard of the scientific committee and the applications now attracts
a co-contribution of an additional 75% from the Commonwealth Government so that the total of  the
2010 Award will be $140,000.

However, there are always more very high standard applications than there are funds for them and the
Brain Foundation is seeking donations so that more projects can be funded. Donors can be assured to
that as well as being tax-deductable, their donations will support projects aimed at improve the treatment
of helping with Muscular Dystrophy while triggering a very large research co-contribution from the Commonwealth.
