09 Jan In Memory of Chris Taylor
An aneurysm is a bulge on the wall of an artery, which occurs because of a weak spot in the artery wall. In most cases, aneurysms are small and do not cause symptoms or issues. However, a ruptured aneurysm is a medical emergency, and can be life-threatening.
Chris “Leafy” Taylor sadly died of a ruptured aneurysm in 2018 when he was 34 years old, leaving behind a wife and 2 small boys. In the wake of this tragedy, they learnt that these conditions have a familial link. Chris’s grandmother, uncle, and cousin all had successful surgeries, and more recently his father was also diagnosed.
His family has since established the “Leafy’s Legacy” charity to raise funds and awareness for brain aneurysms, which has contributed towards our research grant program. They hope that through research, community education, and improved screening, more people will receive life-saving aneurysm treatment.
“Chris was a much-loved individual who touched the lives of those around him with his warmth, kindness, and infectious energy. He was a devoted father, son, partner, and brother, he was the pillar of strength for his family and friends. His larger-than-life personality, love for the outdoors, and passion for helping others made him a much valued member of his community.

There was no indication that Chris was living with an aneurysm, there were no warning signs that we were aware of. He had suffered a flu-like illness 3 weeks prior to his death.
Unfortunately, Chris’s life was cut short while on holiday in Bali with his little family. The sudden loss left a profound void in the hearts of all who knew him, as they grappled with the shock and grief of his passing. The journey to bring Chris and his family back to Australia was a difficult and emotional one, but his memory and spirit continue to live on in the hearts of those who love him.
In honor of Chris, our family established the “Leafy’s Legacy” charity to support causes that were dear to his and our hearts. The inaugural Long Table Dinner fundraiser, held in his memory, raised funds for the Brain Foundation to further research and awareness of aneurysms. Through this initiative, Chris’s impact on the world continues to be felt, as our family and friends strive to make a difference in his honor.

Reflecting on Chris’s passing, our family has come to realise the importance of early detection and screening for aneurysms, especially in cases of strong family history. Had we known about the potential risk factors earlier, we may have been able to prevent this tragedy. Since Chris’ passing his fathers screening MRI has identified an aneurysm which is now being monitored regularly.
Chris’s memory lives on as a beacon of love, light, and generosity, inspiring others to cherish each moment and prioritize their health and well-being. Through “Leafy’s Legacy” and ongoing efforts to raise awareness, our family ensures that his spirit continues to shine brightly, illuminating the lives of those he touched during his time on Earth.”
